22-02-2010 - About Caz Scott The Artist

I studied sculpture and painting when I was living in London and after moving to Dorset I studied at the Arts University College, Bournemouth as well as working with local artists.

Following this move I began to focus on my painting. Surrounded and inspired by our magnificent countryside I find the need to try to express my delight in what I see daily, irresistible.

My love of walking has a huge impact on my work. I always have my sketch-book with me and concentrate on specific views that catch my eye – often it can be a response to the weather that day, the light and shadows, the seasons and the intensity of the vegetation

I paint in oils, usually on canvas but I also use handmade paper for smaller images.

I continue to do some sculpting. I have always enjoyed working with clay, specializing in ceramic sculpture and I have continued to explore this medium since moving to Dorset. I have studied with Ian Gregory and more recently I have focused on smaller pieces using flax clay and raku firing.

I am excited by the properties of paper and flax clays that allow a greater freedom to suggest movement and flexibility within the subject. Working in this medium means that each piece is unique and the fragile nature of the work is part of its attraction and certainly adds to the excitement in its creation.
