About Clare Buckle
I grew up in London and studied display and exhibition design then at Chelsea College of Art I specialised in set design for television and film. I have designed and built large projects for theatre, opera companies and the Brighton Festival. My work in exhibition design has been featured on the arts page of the Daily Telegraph and on television and radio.

“Several veterans of variety have helped the curator of the exhibition, Clare Buckle, to evoke the atmosphere of the Brighton Hippodrome and other places of mirth”
(Patrick O’Connor Daily Telegraph May 6, 1995)
I admire artists of the late 19th and early 20th century and the sculptural quality of some avant-garde movements. My skills are diverse but this comes from my background in theatre where you have to be master of several disciplines. Because of my career history I enjoy painting but also want to build and would like to do more sculptural work in the future. I have an affinity with pattern and I came to appreciate visual and literal puns from my studies in both literature and art history and I have a BA(hons) Eng. Lit.
My art has been shown in many forms and contexts and recent exhibitions in South Dorset have been consistently successful. I am a founder member of the Rodwell Artists and a selection paintings are on continuous display at the Hotel Rembrandt in Weymouth. I am also involved Artwey CIC, a company set up with the purpose of promoting works and artists in Weymouth & Portland area. Together with the other directors of Artwey CIC, we organised the first Artwey Open Studio event in 2009 and gone on to organise two further successful Open Studios in 2010 and 2011. After three years as Company Secretary I am stepping down to dedicate more time to my art.
