Carol is an artist who works with textiles to produce cheerful, vibrant and colourful naïve style landscapes and seascapes. She chooses from a huge stash of recycled, new, hand-dyed, shared & remnant fabrics and, using a free style method, sews the collages together by hand.

“My pictures develop at a slow rate that I find satisfies my creative desires, being very restful and calming, especially when I can sit out in the sun and sew with my work on my lap.”

Carol worked previously in Essex as a teacher. After studying basic applique technique with Essex textile artist Sharon Blackman and moving to Dorset in 2007 years ago she went on to develop her own unique style. “I was inspired by my glorious surroundings to try to recreate the settings and feelings for my new home using the ancient technique I had learnt over previous years”. Many of her originals are framed by her husband, in driftwood washed in by the stormy seas off the Dorset Coast.

Her work can be viewed in hotels and restaurants in Weymouth, Dorchester and further afield at Otterton Mill in Budleigh Salterton and Old Chapel Gallery Abbotsbury.

Carol was chairman of Artwey, a group of 80 artists from South Dorset and was one of the 2 directors of “Open For Art”, a large Open Studios style event for Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester and Abbotsbury. She was selected to join ABNA (Association of British Naïve Artists) with whom she has exhibited in Chichester, St Ives and Mousehole. Carol was featured in Coast magazine February 2019.

As well as her originals, Carol also sells prints, cards, coasters, and placemats.
